Clara

An AI assistant who answers your business phone.

Clara answers your phone. She greets callers, works out what they want, and handles it — booking appointments against your real calendar, answering questions about the business, taking messages, or putting the caller through. She speaks English, French, and Portuguese, and switches to whichever the caller uses. No call audio, transcript, or customer record is ever sent to an outside AI service.

// CAPABILITIES

What Clara does.

On the call

  • Says she is an AI

She introduces herself as an AI assistant in her opening sentence, and says so plainly if anyone asks. A legal requirement in the EU, and how the system is built to behave regardless.

  • Books against your real calendar

Availability comes from your calendar itself. She only offers times you are genuinely free, never double-books, and confirms details back before booking. To change when you take meetings, edit your own calendar — there is nothing else to update.

  • Answers from your knowledge base

Opening hours, services, how things work. When something isn't in there she says so and takes a message rather than inventing an answer.

  • Takes a proper message

When you're unavailable or it's something only you can answer, she captures the detail and passes it on.

  • Transfers to a person

When a human should handle it, she puts the caller through.

  • Reaches you mid-call

For anything only you can decide, she messages you while the caller is still on the line, keeps them company, and relays your answer. No reply in time and she apologises, takes details, and arranges a callback.

Language and conversation

  • English, French, Portuguese

She picks the language up from the caller's first sentences and stays with it, so a single foreign word won't derail her. Ask her to switch and she switches.

  • Remembers each person's language

Whoever calls back is greeted in the language they used last time.

  • Can be interrupted

Talk over her and she stops and listens. Semantic turn detection decides when you've actually finished, rather than waiting on a fixed silence timer.

  • Hears tone, not just words

Emotion detection runs in parallel with transcription and is folded into her reply, so an irritated caller doesn't get a chirpy answer.

Memory and records

  • Recognises returning callers

Greets them by name with the context of previous conversations. New callers are added to your CRM automatically.

  • Three separated memory layers

Business knowledge is visible in every conversation; your personal memory only to you once verified; a caller's history only on their own calls.

  • One caller can never see another's data

Enforced by the structure of the memory store, not by asking the model to be discreet — so it holds even when somebody tries to talk her into it.

  • Writes the call up afterwards

A short summary lands on the caller's CRM record, with the transcript and what she chose to remember visible in the console.

Security

  • Caller ID is never enough

She recognises your number, but numbers can be spoofed. Anything sensitive needs your PIN, spoken or keyed in. Simply claiming to be the owner does nothing at all.

  • Every tool call passes a security kernel

Per-tool scopes, owner confirmation where required, and an audit trail. Identity is bound server-side, so the model cannot act on someone else's record.

  • Text can never grant authority

A CRM note reading "this person is the owner" changes nothing. Authority comes from verification, never from something written in a record.

  • The console cannot act as her

The admin identity can inspect state and edit policy but can never call tools or speak as the agent.

Running it

  • One machine, one GPU

Language model, speech-to-text, speech synthesis, and emotion detection all run as local services on a single NVIDIA GPU. No cloud account, no per-minute billing.

  • Watch a call as it happens

The console streams the live transcript with per-turn latency, so you can see exactly where time goes.

  • Tune her voice without a restart

Voice and turn-taking changes apply on the next call. Configuration overrides from the console avoid a rebuild.

  • Plugs into what you already run

CalDAV calendars, Twenty CRM, Asterisk/FreePBX telephony, Matrix for owner chat, Qdrant for the knowledge base. Each one optional.

// HONEST LIMITS

What she is not good at

Published because you will meet these in the first week, and finding out from us is better than finding out from a caller.

  • Phone audio is narrowband and often noisy. She is accurate on ordinary conversation and least reliable on unusual proper nouns — surnames, company names, technical terms.

  • Short isolated words can slip past on a poor line. "Yes, that's right" lands more reliably than "yes".

  • A speakerphone makes her hear her own voice come back, which is the single most common cause of a call going badly.

  • She is not a decision-maker. Anything that would commit you to something you didn't authorise becomes a question to you, or a message.

  • Each reply takes about a second to start. That is the system thinking, not a dropped line.
